Due to the pandemic, open figure sessions are not an option. That’s why the name of this painting is “Casualty.” However, this painting is one of my favorite figure paintings from a recent open session. Therefore, I decided to include it in my 2020 series called “Favorite Things.” In the Favorite Things series, I share…
Why Surrounded? After all, this fresh little egg from a nearby chicken coop is, well, all by itself. Ahh but this little egg is not by itself. Welcome to my series of paintings and blog posts called “Favorite Things.” Each week in 2020, I paint a still life painting of one of my favorite things….
There’s a sweet story in this painting! I will share shortly. However, I could not resist naming this painting “Sweet and Sour.” Why? Imagine the contrasting tastes of the flask and the lemon. Welcome to this week’s painting which is a part of a series I started back in January and is called “My Favorite…
You may be wondering why I would title a blog post “Getting to Know You?” Well, I can share several reasons with you. First, it is the title of a song from a fantastic musical called “The King and I.” This amazing musical and its score were one of many my siblings and I heard…
In this current crazy world, I could not resist calling this painting “Cheerful Carrots.” I absolutely love carrots. Why? Well, their luscious color for one. But there are so many more reasons. Let me count the ways. Counting the ways I love carrots because they are completely crunchy! And, I love them because they are…
Ever find yourself looking at a couple and thinking “What a pair?” I confess this happens to me all the time. Here’s an example: have you ever looked outside your window and seen a bluebird couple getting ready to build a nest? Yay you! It is, after all, that time of year. The male bluebird…
I stumbled upon these two mangoes at the grocery store recently. I popped them into my grocery cart. Then I rushed home and could not wait to put them on a bright white plate. Part of a Series Voila! Here’s to my next painting. In this case, these two colorful and luscious mangoes are a…
Have you ever thought about the power of beets? No? I haven’t either. That is, until I started this painting of a rich, red beet. First off, if Tori Amos can write a song about the Power of Orange Knickers, then it seems I can share some thoughts on the power of this mighty red…
How do you feel about turnip? I love turnip so much that I painted this visual “Ode to the Turnip.” Here’s what’s strange about this ode. I love the way turnips look. But, I’m afraid, dear reader, I do not like the way turnip tastes. I have never liked turnip’s taste. In fact, I especially…

One of my favorite songs is “Favorite Things” by Julie Andrews in the musical Sound of Music.
